COCHLEAR

After an entire year of working, fighting, crying for a cochlear implant, Avery had the surgery on June 25th. The surgery went very well, the anesthesiologist was impressed with her "calm" nature.
She wasn't scared at all, the waiting was a little difficult for her. We had to keep her entertained by playing doctor.
The surgery was at LDS Hospital. They weren't used to dealing with small patients and we received numerous comments on how small she was in the big hospital beds. She did get to ride to surgery in the wagon. She was already slightly sedated and feeling sleepy.
They had me go back and be with her as soon as she woke up. They claim most kids wake up screaming. She is really smiling in the picture. The bandage was pushing her eyebrows into a scowl and she had to walk around like that for 24 hours. Also the tape marks were quite pronounced even across her eyelids.
In the recovery room she finally got to see her daddy and eat and drink. She never has problems with the anesthesia. She wanted to go, go, go and as soon as we could we went home. We stopped for a happy meal on the way home and the McDonald's crew did know quite what to make of her, she insisted on paying through the drive thru.
